Partner category visa options
If you wish to bring your partner to Australia, there are different types of partner visas available.
You may be eligible for a partner category visa if you are:
- Spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, or
- Fiancé of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, or
- De facto partner (including same-sex relationships) with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Option 1
If you are:
- Applying for a visa in Australia, and
- A spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen The Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 820) and Permanent Visa (subclass 801) may be appropriate.
Applying outside Australia
Option 2
If you are:
Applying for a visa outside Australia, and you are a spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and Intend to marry before a decision is made on your Partner visa application. The Partner (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 309) and Permanent Visa (Subclass 100) may be appropriate.
Option 3
If you are:
Applying for a visa outside Australia, and Intend to travel to Australia and marry an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen after you are granted a visa, a Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) may be appropriate.

If you wish to bring your parents to Australia, there are different types of parent visas available.
Family members
There are visa available for Aged Dependent Relatives (subclasses 114 and 838) visas, Remaining Relative (subclasses 115 and 835) visas and Carer (subclasses 116 and 836) however these visas are subject to capping and queuing. Which means only a certain number of visas are processed each year and this is done on a priority basis.
Carer visa options
